Last week, the San Francisco Bay Guardian gave a behind the scenes look at the Academy of Arts University fashion show from New York Fashion Week. The story features photos taken by our one-and-only fine fashion photographer Aldo Carrera, as well as a Q&A highlighting Aldo’s experience at NYFW and opinions on photojournalism. Photo’s featured are a bit more personal then your average backstage photographer–check it out here.
As mentioned previously, Aldo Carrera was fortunate enough to be selected to shoot the Academy of Art University’s NYFW looks. Not only was Aldo able to get some amazing backstage footage, but he also was able to create a concept photoshoot using some of his favorite pieces done by Heather Rose McDonald and Heather Scholl (separate designers) and with the help of Laila Elguindi (model), Christina Anderson (model), Melvin Harper (photographer&stylist), Monae Everett (hair & makeup) and Perry Silverman (production.) Aldo chose to juxtapose the stereotypical glamour attached to high fashion, with a bit of ordinary life. We often only see runway couture on the red carpet, creating a wall between those of the rich and famous from us “normal people;” Aldo intends to show the world that we are all human, dressed in runway or not, we all still want to go home and relax.
